Por primera vez, Caravaca de la Cruz será una de las sedes de los cursos que, bajo la denominación de Universidad Internacional del Mar, organiza cada año la Universidad de Murcia, con el fin de promocionar la actividad educativa extracurricular en espacios y períodos complementarios al desarrollo de su oferta académica reglada.

El convenio de colaboración firmado entre el Ayuntamiento de Caravaca de la Cruz y la Universidad de Murcia permitirá la celebración del curso 'Caravaca de la Cruz: cultura, turismo y recuperación histórica' del 7 al 9 de octubre, una temática de actualidad que relaciona la vinculación de la ciudad como destino turístico con sus valores históricos y patrimoniales.

El alcalde, José Francisco García, ha destacado el acuerdo firmado con una institución como la Universidad de Murcia y la apuesta del Consistorio por introducir al municipio en una oferta académica consolidada como es la de los cursos de esta institución, con una actividad cuyos contenidos están especialmente diseñados y adaptados a la realidad local, analizando aspectos económicos, sociales y culturales.

José Francisco García ha recordado que, durante varios años en el mes de julio, Caravaca de la Cruz acogió el curso de Restauración, gestión y Difusión del Patrimonio Construido, organizado por la Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, que superó las diez ediciones dentro de los cursos de verano de esta universidad. "Desde entonces, Caravaca no había vuelto a ser sede de un encuentro académico de estas características, donde se debatieran y pusieran en común investigaciones, proyectos y estudios que desde diferentes disciplinas pueden ayudar al desarrollo de nuestro municipio en diferentes aspectos", ha añadido el alcalde.

El curso, dirigido por la profesora de la Universidad de Murcia María Isabel Sánchez-Mora, tiene como objetivo proporcionar a los asistentes el conocimiento de la cultura como un valor fundamental de la sociedad y profundizar en el turismo como motor socioeconómico en el municipio de Caravaca de la Cruz. Las diferentes conferencias y mesas redondas programadas abordan temas como el turismo de interior, cultural y religioso; el Año Jubilar; emprendimiento en el sector turístico; la puesta en valor del patrimonio histórico; el valor de las tradiciones o la educación en la cultura.

El curso está abierto a la participación del alumnado de Bachillerato, Universitarios y cualquier persona interesada en el tema, y el plazo de inscripción ya se encuentra abierto en https://www.um.es/web/unimar/cursos-y-actividades/sedes/caravaca.
