Esta actuación, que evita el tramo por carretera con tráfico rodado, está financiada por la Fundación Camino de la Cruz con un presupuesto de 178.000 euros

El proyecto, cuya finalización está prevista para el próximo mes de mayo, incluye, entre otras actuaciones, la instalación de una pasarela peatonal de estructura metálica de treinta y cinco metros de longitud que cruzará el Barranco de San Jerónimo

Con un presupuesto de 178.000 euros, durante este primer semestre del Pasarela1 año se están desarrollando las obras de ampliación del tramo final del Camino de Levante. Una actuación financiada por el Gobierno de la Región de Murcia y las empresas de la Fundación Camino de la Cruz que va a permitir que peregrinos y, en general, andariegos y ciclistas accedan desde la Vía Verde del Noroeste al casco histórico sin tener que atravesar tramos con tráfico de vehículos.

“La obra supone una mejora para la seguridad vial, creando un nuevo acceso más cómodo íntegramente peatonal, que permite llegar de forma directa al mismo corazón de la ciudad”, según ha detallado el alcalde, José Francisco García, durante la visita realizada a los trabajos junto al director general del Instituto de Turismo de la Región de Murcia (ITREM), Juan Francisco Martínez.

En la actualidad, el trazado final del Camino de Levante discurre paralelo a la Carretera RM 517 hasta la entrada al núcleo urbano de Caravaca de la Cruz. A partir de este punto, el trayecto se desdibuja por el interior de la ciudad.

“Esta actuación supone otro paso adelante dentro del proyecto Anillo Verde, un circuito peatonal de unos ocho kilómetros de longitud que rodeará el casco urbano, y en cuyo recorrido también se encuentra el sendero que recientemente hemos habilitado, con un presupuesto de 50.000 euros, desde el Camino del Huerto al paraje de Las Fuentes del Marqués y que continuaremos con nuevas actuaciones previstas en el plan de sostenibilidad turística ‘Camino a Caravaca 2024”, ha informado José Francisco García.

Según el director del Instituto de Turismo de la Región de Murcia, “la infraestructura reforzará la puesta en valor del Camino de Levante, llevando al peregrino directamente al centro histórico de la ciudad, junto a la Oficina Municipal de Turismo y en dirección a la Real Basílica de la Vera Cruz”.

Pasarela2 José Francisco García ha añadido que “justo en el lugar donde ahora va a terminar el trayecto del Camino de Levante tenemos previsto crear el Centro de Acogida al Peregrino, aprovechando una serie de estancias que llevaban mucho tiempo desuso en el Palacete de los Uribe, junto a las actuales dependencias del Museo de la Fiesta”.

Asimismo, el alcalde y el director del ITREM han puesto de manifiesto el compromiso de la Fundación Camino de la Cruz para financiar todo tipo de actuaciones relacionadas con el desarrollo de infraestructuras que mejoren los servicios turísticos, la conservación del patrimonio histórico y la celebración de eventos que promocionen a Caravaca de la Cruz como destino de peregrinación. Una fundación que -tal y como ha indicado el director del Instituto de Turismo- “es el ejemplo de colaboración público privada de la Región de Murcia”.

Otra actuación que se está llevando a cabo en este primer cuatrimestre del año gracias al apoyo de la Fundación Camino de la Cruz es la exposición del acuarelista Zacarías Cerezo ‘De Cartagena a Caravaca de la Cruz, un camino contado a la acuarela’ que, se puede visitar hasta el próximo mes de mayo en el museo del Teatro Romano de la ciudad cartagenera.

Los patronos públicos y privados que conforman la Fundación Camino de la Cruz son el Instituto de Turismo de la Región de Murcia, Grupo Fuertes, Postres y Dulces Reina, Café Salzillo, Estrella de Levante, Limcamar, Caixabank, Grupo Caliche, las fundaciones de la Ucam y Hefame, el Ayuntamiento de Caravaca de la Cruz y la Real e Ilustre Cofradía de la Santísima y Vera Cruz de Caravaca.
