Una nueva guía ofrece tres itinerarios para pasear por Caravaca siguiendo los pasos de San Juan de la Cruz.

Una guía ofrecerá a las personas que visiten Caravaca de la Cruz tres itinerarios por el casco urbano vinculados a la figura de San Juan de la Cruz. Esta iniciativa es fruto de una nueva colaboración entre los Padres Carmelitas Descalzos y el Ayuntamiento, dentro de las acciones que se vienen llevando a cabo para potenciar el conocimiento del legado los místicos universales de San Juan y Santa Teresa de Jesús a través de su vinculación histórica con la ciudad. 

La Concejalía de Turismo ha editado los primeros dos mil ejemplares de la guía ‘Caminando con San Juan de la Cruz por Caravaca’, que se entregarán de forma gratuita en la Oficina Municipal de Turismo y en los hoteles y hospederías.

La guía consta de 42 páginas, con textos de Francisco Javier García López y María José Lozano Bernal e ilustraciones de Gema Reinón, que aluden a textos, construcciones y paisajes de la Caravaca de finales del siglo XVI (1579-1587). La publicación incluye también un plano desplegable en el que se marcan los tres itinerarios que permiten dar un paseo por la ciudad: zona centro (Calle de la Cruz, Corredera, Mayor, Gregorio Javier, etcétera), zona Castillo-Basílica de la Vera Cruz y zona Calle Colegio-Barrio San Francisco.

El concejal de Turismo, José Carlos Gómez, ha agradecido “la colaboración de la Comunidad Carmelita y de todas las personas que durante los últimos meses han aportado sus conocimientos para que este proyecto sea hoy una realidad”. Este trabajo – ha señalado- “nos permite ofrecer una nueva y original alternativa para descubrir Caravaca con una propuesta fundamentada en un personaje universal como es San Juan de la Cruz, que nos aporta valor y diferenciación, al tiempo que refuerza nuestro carácter de destino de turismo religioso”.

Para el prior de los Carmelitas en Caravaca, fray Pascual Gil, “más que una guía se trata de un libro en formato cuadernillo que permite aproximarse a la Caravaca que encontró San de la Cruz en sus visitas. En relación a esto, el carmelita seglar Francisco Javier García López ha añadido “era un pueblo en plena ebullición y expansión extramuros al que ahora nos acercamos a través de textos sencillos, accesibles y cercanos”.

Camino de San Juan de la Cruz

Caravaca es el punto de llegada o partida del Camino de San Juan de la Cruz; un trazado de más de 150 kilómetros compuesto por cinco etapas, que discurren por la Sierra de Segura a través de las localidades de Beas de Segura, Hornos de Segura, Pontones, Santiago de la Espada, Nerpio y El Sabinar (Moratalla).

Este camino surgió a iniciativa de los Padres Carmelitas Descalzos de Caravaca, quienes desarrollaron un trazado inicial, página web y otros materiales para la promoción del camino. Se cumplía así un anhelo de la comunidad carmelitana de seguir los pasos de San Juan de la Cruz, a través de un camino con más de 400 años de historia, ya que se han podido documentar al menos siete viajes del santo carmelita a Caravaca de la Cruz.

Los ayuntamientos pertenecientes a comunidades autónomas de Andalucía, Castilla-La Mancha y  Murcia han conformado el grupo de Grupo de Ciudades ‘Camino de San Juan de la Cruz’ y trabajan conjuntamente en la puesta valor y promoción del camino a través de asambleas que, desde octubre del pasado año, se convocan de forma periódica en las distintas localidades.
